Tell us a little bit about you!
“I grew up in suburban St Paul, Minnesota, attended Iowa State University, and came to Fargo to join the electrical and electronics engineering faculty at NDSU. Before Grand Farm, I worked 32 years in advanced ag tech, including precision ag and ag automation/autonomy, at Concord Inc, Case Corporation (now CNH), and John Deere. I also currently do ag tech writing, speaking, and consulting.
I am married and have two adult daughters. My wife and I enjoy traveling and spending summer evenings on our patio, surrounded by my wife’s flower garden. I am part of a Christian small group that meets weekly and am an officer of the Red River Valley chapter of the American Scientific Affiliation, an international organization that explores questions at the intersection of faith and science.”
What college did you attend? What was your major?
“Iowa State University getting four degrees: BS electrical engineering, BS computer engineering, MS computer engineering, and PhD computer engineering.”
What’s one activity that energizes you?
“I am an avid walker, walking on average over 50 miles a week while listening to audiobooks and reading electronic editions of newspapers.”
If you could take a 30 day, all-expense paid vacation, where or how would you spend your time?
“Australia and New Zealand with a focus on hiking New Zealand’s national parks. As my daughters have lamented, a vacation planned by me is heavy on museums, hiking trails, and scenic overlooks. In the last year, my wife and I have hiked the Alps in Switzerland and walked historic ruins in Greece and Turkey.”
Do you have a favorite book or movie?
“I find it exceedingly hard to pick favorites from a large set.”
Tell us one random fact about yourself!
“There was an interview with a Fargo media personality in a recent publication. One interview question was “What is your favorite smell?” After thinking about the question, I decided my answer was “Fargo in May.” The sidewalks in North Fargo have the scent of blooming lilacs and crab apples, as well as temporary fragrances like newly cut grass and spring rain. Add in a sunrise walk with birdsong and a mocha for bonus point.”
Why are you excited to work for Emerging Prairie?
“Working more with Emerging Prairie and especially Grand Farm has been on my radar for a number of years. I am thankful for that coming to fruition. Great mission, organization, and people.”
